Obituary for Filomena Nicosia

Filomena "Phyllis" R Nicosia (nee Sannelli), 81, of West Caldwell, passed away Friday, June 29th, 2012. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral mass on Monday 1pm at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair. Visiting will be held on Monday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair. caggianomemorial.com


Born in Belleville, Phyllis lived in Verona prior to moving to West Caldwell in 2000. She worked for the Mount Carmel Guild in Newark for many years.

Phyllis was a loving and kind wife, sister, and aunt who enjoyed painting, singing, and entertaining. She had an appreciation for Egyptian history and took pleasure in reading and collecting books and items about that era. Phyllis also found a sense of serenity when she was surrounded by pictures of angels and St. Anthony.

She is predeceased by her parents Ferdinando Sannelli and Emilia Tito, her sister Carmella Sannelli and husband Salvatore Nicosia. Phyllis is survived by her sister Antonette Catalano and her nieces Carol Miscia and her husband Frank; Brenda Lodato and her husband Rick; Mary Studer and her husband Louis; six cherished great nieces and nephews: Nicholas Lodato, Janine Miscia Barboza, Phillip Lodato, Michael Miscia, Anthony Studer and Michele Studer, and a great-great niece ViviAnn Lodato.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona, NJ.
