Obituary for Lorraine Morokoff

Lorraine Frances Morokoff, beloved wife of Gene E. Morokoff, to whom she was married for 68 years, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2016 at Gates Manor after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was 89 years old. Lorraine was born in northern Illinois, daughter of Grace (McKee) Guse and Fred Guse. She is the sister of Eugene Guse of Marengo, Illinois and the late Alice (Guse) Koch, Phyllis (Guse) (Wiegert) Paulsen, and Theodore Guse. She is survived by her devoted children, Patricia and her husband Michael of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; Dawn of Cincinnati, Ohio; David of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carol of Boonton, New Jersey, and William and his husband Benjamin of Montclair, New Jersey. She is also survived by four beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Christine, Aaron, and Seth and by three dogs, Freddy, Mr. Mouse and Moose and two cats, Choco and Tigger.. Lorraine received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Beloit College in 1948 with a major in Classics and a minor in Spanish She taught Latin to high school students in Champaign, Illinois before moving to Indianapolis where she worked from 1969 to 1992 in the Marion County Department of Pulbic Welfare as a child social service case worker. After her retirement she was a caregiver at Fort Harrison in their nursery until the army base closed, at which time she began with the Lawrence Township after-school program where she remained for 14 years, celebrating both her 75th and 80th birthdays with the children. In 2010 she and Gene moved to Montclair, New Jersey. She continued for several years to provide after-school care to children through the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair. Her legacy will live on in the many children's lives she has touched as an educator, social worker, and caregiver. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs supporter and avid sports fan. A service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair on Saturday, November 5 at 2:00 pm. Interment of ashes will be at 1:45 pm in the church garden. Donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
