Obituary for Rita Fumosa

Rita Fumosa (née Gallipani) died peacefully in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on November 16, 2016 at the age of 84. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday November 21, at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, cremation will be private. Visiting will be on Sunday from 1-5pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair. Condolences can be sent to Caggianomemorial.com
Rita was born on October 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to Lucy and Ralph Gallipani. She graduated from Essex County College with an Associates Degree in Economics. She married Sam Fumosa on March March 21, 1949. After moving to West Orange, New Jersey, Rita began working for Good Deal Supermarkets, and later Carl Shadel and Company. Over the next ten years, the couple welcomed three children into their home and Rita made it her duty to raise them into the outstanding members of the community they are today. Coupled with her husband and partner Sam, she went on to begin the still flourishing family run trucking company, Redwood Express. Her children remember her as the strong woman who marched proudly for the women’s suffrage movement in the late 60’s and 70’s, won Woman of the Year award from the Sons of Italy in 1986, a delegate for the Democratic National Convention from New Jersey in 1980, as well as a loving care giver for anyone who needed it. She encouraged everyone to achieve their goals.
Rita is survived by her husband, Sam Fumosa; her sister, Josephine Maggio; her children and their spouses, Barbara Wisniewski and her husband Ken Wisniewski, Steven Fumosa and his wife Mary Fumosa, Joseph Fumosa and his wife Francine Fumosa; grandchildren, Angela Laird, Ronnie Trisuzzi, Dori Warren, Serena DiMuro, Samantha Fumosa, Joseph Fumosa, Lucy Fumosa; and great-grandchildren Michael Laird, Ronnie Trisuzzi, Johnny Trisuzzi, Annabella Laird, Ashton Warren, Madeline Warren, Elizabeth Warren, and Benjamin DiMuro.
