Obituary for Joseph W. Mitchell

Joseph Mitchell Sr., of Nutley, passed away on July 13, 2017 at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 17th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Kearny. Interment at Restland Memorial Park , East Hanover. Visiting will be Sunday 12:00 – 4:00pm at Caggiano Memorial Home, 62 Grove St., Montclair. (caggianomemorial.com)

Joseph was born on June 30, 1935 to Anna and Peter Mitchell of Kearny where he spent his early years and graduated Kearny High School. Joseph was employed at NJ Bell for 20 years and was part owner at AIM Communications in Fairfield. Joseph had a lifelong love of music and spent many years singing in local Barbershop choruses.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen (Bloshuk), and his children Theresa Stanton of Toms River; Lisa Mitchell of Belleville; Sandra Ruscio and husband Frank of Coatesville, PA; Joseph Jr. and wife Michelle of Washington Township and Samantha Mitchell of Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chelsea and Courtney Stanton and Logan Mitchell; his brother, William Mitchell of Florida and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Terry Fujarek of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Jude Hospital (stjude.org) and Shriners Hospital (shrinershospitalsforchildren.org) would be appreciated.
