Obituary for Ernest C Williams

Ernest C. Williams, 96, of Bloomfield, passed away on Wednesday December 13, 2017. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday December 16th at St. Anthony’s Church in Belleville, with an interment at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth. Visiting hours will be on Friday, December 15th (today) from 4-8pm at Caggiano Memorial Home, 62 Grove St, Montclair. Caggianomemorial.com

Ernest was born and raised in Newark before moving to Bloomfield where he lived for over 70 years. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Creon.

After his initial retirement, Ernie was employed by the Township of Bloomfield for twenty years as a crossing guard, where he served the many children of the community until 2004.

Ernest is survived by his son, Craig E. Williams, and his wife Maria, his grandchildren, Annette Baker and her husband Matthew, and Charlene DelGrande and her husband Ben. He was adored by his great grandchildren Julia Rose, Justin Matthew, and Maria Majella. They affectionately called him “Double G”.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Charlotte (nee Wissen), by his parents Charles and Ethel (nee Barden) Williams, and by his brother Franklin Williams. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and friends.
