Condolences

Condolence From: Tom Rethard
Condolence: Dr. M was my favorite professor in college (at Northwestern State University of Louisiana). He came there shortly after completing his PhD and quickly showed himself to be one of the most curious and passionate men I have ever met. He was clearly very thoughtful and highly intelligent, as well as a caring person. He quickly became my mentor as I took every class I could get from him. Unlike many professors, he actually enjoyed talking with his students, and I was privileged to have private conversations with him on a number of occasions as I drove him to the airport. I came to admire him, not just for his intelligence and education, but also for his strength of character and his humanity. I still remember jaws dropping in class when he told us he had been a belly gunner in a B-17 in WWII. I'm an Air Force Brat and my father had been a B-17 pilot in WWII, so I knew exactly the dangers that particular position encompassed. And then he told us about having been raised in Vaudeville... This was an incredible man, and a great gift to those of us who knew him. May his memory be a blessing to all.
