Flora Brothers
It is with deep sorrow, that we announce the passing of Flora Catherine Brothers on Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend. Although a retired nurse, she continued to live out her days as a nurturing caregiver to others.

Flora Catherine MacDonald was born in Souris West, Prince Edward Island, Canada on July 7, 1933 to parents Joseph MacDonald and Charlotte Hughes. She spent her childhood in “Souris by the Sea” and summers in Newfoundland, Canada. Upon her graduation from Souris High School, she decided to embark upon a career in nursing. She attended the Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating in the class of 1954. While there she befriended a fellow classmate, Lillian, who introduced her to her brother, Carl Brothers. They fell in love, married and began a family. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the “states” and made Montclair, N.J. their lifelong home. It was in NJ that she renewed her nursing career, working at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, and St. Vincent’s Hospital, Community Hospital, and Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. She especially loved working in the pediatric wings. Thereafter, she began a career as a private duty nurse, which she continued until her retirement.
