Obituary for Robert McKeown


Robert V. McKeown, 82, of Lakewood, formerly of Montclair passed away on Wednesday November 21st, 2018. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday November 25th from 1-5pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair. Caggianomemorial.com A funeral mass will be celebrated on at 10am Monday November 26th at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Montclair. Cremations will be private.

Robert was a was born in Paterson, NJ to John and Grace McKeown. After serving in the US Army during Korean War, he received a BS in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickenson University. He then worked for ITT Avionics in Nutley for 35 years. While at ITT he was a program director for the US Government Agencies on Long Range Navigation (LORAN) and tactical Navigation (TACAN) systems. He was responsible for the purchasing, manufacturing, delivery and installation of the systems for Egypt, Daudi Arabia, Singapore, Australia, and South Korea. He also traveled the world extensively assisting the marketing and giving presentations on these systems.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Montclair, and the American Legion in Lakewood.

Bob and Marie raised their family in Montclair before moving to Lakewood in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie (nee Maher), his children, Karen McKeown, Robert Jr. (Diane), Tom (Susan), Paul (Kathy) and Richard, his 13 grandchildren, Dina Sutton (Robert), Michael DiFilippo, Daniel DeFilippo (Jennifer), Sean McKeown (Stephanie), Courtney Masi (Nicholas), Matthew, Megan, Ryan, Grace, Kayla, Paige, Brendan, and Caitlin McKeown, and 5 great grandchildren, Daniela, Joseph, Dominic, Michael DiFilippo, and Robert Sutton Jr, and by his siblings, James and Florence, and many loving nieces and nephews.

His greatest joys in life were first and foremost his wife Marie and his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Jack.
