Obituary for Ana Lucia "Lulu" Haynes

Ana Lucia "Lulu" Haynes
Haynes, Ana Lucia, 4, died gracefully on January 18, 2014, at New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital in New York City. Lulu, as she was known from birth, was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, and lived her entire childhood in Montclair. She will be missed by her devoted mother and father, Maura and Lukas, her brother Jimmy, and dog Henry. She leaves behind grandparents, Ana and Gregory Freiwald, Harriet and Charles Haynes; aunts Mariana Burke and Kristen Haynes; uncles Michael Burke and Zachary Haynes; and loving cousins Sophia, Thomas, and Lauren Burke. A student at the Montclair Community Pre-K since 2012, Lulu also attended St. James PreSchool. Her life was rich with friends and myriad interests. An avid skier, Lulu was a member of the Hidden Valley Ski Club from 2011-13, and had reservations to ski the expert slopes at Aspen in February. She played soccer for the Montclair United Kinder Kickers and finished third in a 2013 New York Giants Run of Champions Play60 Kids Race. Lulu studied at Gisele Renee Dance Studio, with whom she danced at Montclair State University. Her most notable stage performance was as a tap-dancing assistant in her brother’s comedy routine at the 2013 Bradford Night of Stars Talent Show. She practiced piano and loved art, especially sharing with family and friends. Lulu brought joy to everyone she met and her death touched hundreds of lives across Montclair and as far as Australia. She was laid to rest at St. Cassian Church in Upper Montclair on January 20, 2014, at a mass attended by over 175 mourners. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MCPK Scholarship Fund, 49 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ 07042.

A Celebration of Lulu will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Details can be obtained by emailing the MCPK Parents Association at Molly@13inc.com. There will be an open microphone to share memories of Lulu. As the optimistic child always said, “No sad stories!”
