Obituary for Boris Kwaloff

Boris Kwaloff, a Montclair resident since 1959, passed away at Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital on October 29, 2016 after a brief illness one week shy of his 98th birthday.

Born on November 5, 1918 in Newark, NJ, Boris was a proud WWII Army veteran having served for 6 years. He loved sports cars and 'sporty car' people. He helped start the Suburban Sports Car Club, and was in his 57th year as a member of the Sports Car Club of America. In the 1960's he raced a Mini Cooper S at Lime Rock and Bridgehampton and kept his interest in Mini's over the years. For many years, Boris organized the classic car section of the Montclair 4th of July parade and drove his beloved Mini, blasting John Phillip Souza marches through the sound system.

Boris was an aficionado and expert on jazz music and spent many nights in New York jazz clubs on 52nd St. He was a long time member of the New Jersey Jazz Society.

A 1940 graduate of the University of Newark (later Rutgers University), he was a Public Accountant. He began his 75 year accounting career with Peat Marwick and eventually started his home based practice to be close to his family.

Known for his storytelling skills, Boris was the center of every gathering. His infectious laugh and passion for life made all of Boris’ stories come alive.

Boris was pre-deceased by his sons Michael and Sun PK (Peter Kwaloff). Boris is survived by nephews David Waldman (Karen), Marc Waldman (Mary), nieces Susan Waldman and JoAnna Kwaloff-Veeda (Charlie). He is also survived by special friends Stefania Cohen and Larry (Mary) Dulude.

A Celebration of Boris’ Life is being planned by family and friends.
