Obituary for Phyllis Simitopoulos


Phyllis Simitopoulos, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother


Phyllis Simitopoulos, 97, formerly of Montclair and Jamaica, Queens, passed away on February 3, 2017 at Job Haines Home in Bloomfield, NJ. Visiting will be held from 1-4pm on Sunday, February 5th at Caggiano Memorial Home at 62 Grove St. in Montclair, NJ (caggianomemorial.com). Funeral liturgy will be held at 11am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton, NJ. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Queens, NY.


Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Elias Mantsios in 1950 and her husband George Simitopoulos in 2006 as well as her brother John Linakis. She is survived by her son, Gregory Mantsios, her daughter-in-law Paula Rothenberg, her grandchildren Alexi and Andrea Mantsios and their spouses Caroline Donohue and Luis Ocaranza, and her great granddaughter Molly James Mantsios. Phyllis was raised in Greece and spent most of her adult life working as a seamstress in NY and NJ. She brought her kind and jovial spirit and pride in all things Greek to each community she became a part of and will be greatly missed.
