Nicolino G. Di Benedetto O.D., 59, of Towaco, passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2017. Visiting hours will be on Friday (today) from 4-8pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday 11:30 am at Holy Spirit Church in 318 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Pequannock. Cremation will be private



Nicolino was born in Durban, South Africa, and came to America when he was 10. He graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Biology, being the first in his family to attend college. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry, then working for the Eye Dr. for 20 years. He then joined Phillips and Hudson Eye Specialists in 2004, and periodically gave lectures to fellow Optometric Physicians, and recently published an article in Elsevier’s Practice Update.

Although he loved tennis, golf and working in his yard, his family was his real passion.

He is survived by his wife Lisa Pino, his children Thomas and Stephanie, his mother Anna (nee Solimene), His brother Piero and his wife Cathi, his nephew Michael, and many aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was predeceased by his father Gaetano in 2009.
