Obituary for Anthony Joseph Proto
Anthony Joseph Proto, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 20th, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, December 27th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Montclair, with an interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetary in Upper Montclair. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday December 26th from 4-8 pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove Street, Montclair. Caggianomemorial.com
Anthony was born and raised in Glen Ridge, and a graduate of Glen Ridge High School. He was a Mechanical Inspector at Rosemont Analytical in Ceder Grove for 42 years. He served as President of the Saint Sebastian Society of Montclair for 14 years. This organization was very close to his heart. He was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Bloomfield and the 4th Degree Assembly Saint Isaac Jogues. He was a member of The Antique Automobile Club, the Dodge Brothers Club, the Golden Circle of Glen Ridge, the Senior Citizen Club of Bloomfield.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Leanor (nee Raniero), his daughter, Maryanne Proto Tarrant, and her husband, John. His grandchildren, Anthony, Julianne and John Gerard will carry his memory in their hearts. Anthony is predeceased by his parents, Gaetano and Concetta (nee Prestifilippo) Proto.
