She is predeceased by husband, John (John T) Pico Jr. They were married in 1948 and spent an enjoyable honeymoon on Cape Cod and taking in a game at Boston’s Fenway Park to watch their beloved Yankees play the Red Sox.
She and her husband John moved their family to Belleville, where she lived for the past 60 years.
Mildred’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and entertaining. She especially enjoyed special moments with her grand- and great-grandchildren. She loved music and attended “Jersey Boys” numerous times. Recently she discovered a new found friend: “Alexa.”
A warm and entertaining hostess, her home was the traditional destination for many gatherings. All holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve,and birthdays were celebrated there. She presided over decades-long Sunday morning breakfasts with family and friends who loudly debated everything from politics, the greatest Yankee team, the greatest MLB player and/or the best New Jersey high school football team or coach of all time, etc.
Preparing daily lunches for many decades, her brothers enjoyed many. Later, that tradition was replaced by a daily lunch for her daughters, friends and family who worked for Belleville Public Schools.
Sunday afternoon pasta with her friends and family was routine, the last one enjoyed on Sunday, December 16, 2018.
Mildred was born and raised in Montclair with her 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister Molly DeCarlo, and predeceased by her brothers Joseph (Sonny), Sebastian (Bingo), Donato (Junior), James (Hip), Nicholas and Christopher DiGeronimo; her sisters Marguerite Cousins, Sera Russo and Annarita DeZenzo. She is survived by her children, John and his wife Nancy, Melissa Guinta and her husband Carmen, Melinda Troise and her husband Joe, and Jeffrey Pico; her grandchildren Kelly and husband Jason Cornwell, Holly and husband Patrick Moore, Christopher and wife Jamie Guinta, Jillian Guinta, and Alexis and husband Michael Core, Jodi and husband Craig Sparano, Melanie Troise, Joe Troise and fiancée Angela; and six great-grandchildren.
During World War II, Mildred was proud to have worked at Walter Kidde & Company in Belleville.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
