Life Story for Umberto Fatatis

Umberto Fatatis,88, of Edison formerly of Montclair, entered into eternal light Thursday, February 28, 2019. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday March 5th at Immaculate Conception Church in Montclair, interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair. Umberto was born in Naples, Italy to Anna and Giuseppe Fatatis. As a boy, Umberto endured WWII, but grew to acquire many skills such as cooking, pastry making and machine operating. After his service in the Italian Navy and employment at a gas company, he chose to move to America in 1956. He worked for the Western Electric Company in Kearny and helped his uncle in his New York restaurants on weekends.
In 1957, he returned to Italy to marry Margherita in hopes that they would build a promising life together in the U.S. After a few years in Jersey City, the couple moved to Montclair and had three children . They resided in Montclair for approximately 41 years . Umberto was known as a generous, friendly hard-worker who was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends. He enjoyed watching soccer and football, playing cards, and listening to music. He especially enjoyed reading popular mechanics.

He is survived by his wife, Margherita of 61 years, his son Joseph and his wife Patricia, his daughter Anna and grandchildren, Elisa and David and his son John and his wife Kristie and grandchildren Jack and Grace.
