Obituary for Anne Reeves
Anne Reeves was driven by her caring for and giving to other people. In her spare time, Anne gave her time and money to support homeless children, recruiting her network of friends and family to the cause. Through her dream job as a theater usher, Anne gave families and visitors a stress-free and enjoyable experience at Broadway shows. Anne gave her softball team a boost of spirits with a rallying cheer and would text her siblings at the end of each game about how many hits—and on good days how many RBIs—she racked up that day.
Anne was also a fighter. She overcame many obstacles in life through luck, grit, perseverance, and an innate knowledge of how to bring many of life’s puzzle pieces together. She found purpose and meaning in her life through her dedication to her work. Her career combined her giving nature and customer service skills with her deep love of the magic of show business and, specifically, Broadway.
At the age of 48, Anne Barbra Reeves died in her sleep at home in Montclair, NJ, during the weekend of August 9, 2019. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, she now joins her parents Judith Ann Reeves and John Paul Reeves, who also departed this earth too early. Anne is survived by her brother James Reeves, sister Kary Lewis, brother-in-law Gregg Lewis, and nephew Aidan Lewis.
A member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 306, she supported many of the shows of the Shubert and Nederlander Organizations. She was particularly proud of working for Farinelli & the King, Phantom of the Opera, and The Lion King.
She was one of Bon Jovi’s and Def Leppard’s biggest fans as well as nearly any rock group from the 1980s. It’s no surprise that, of all the shows she had supported and seen on Broadway, Rock of Ages was her favorite. With talented casts, a fun story, and most importantly the music of her youth, the show filled Anne with nostalgic happiness that emanated from her face whenever she brought the show up in conversation. She enjoyed seeing movies in the theater, with Boba Fett of Star Wars being one of her favorite characters. Despite her fear of sharks, Anne was fascinated by Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. She loved her childhood cat Licorice and her own cat from adulthood, Frisky. She prided herself on her fandom of the Dallas Cowboys and made sure everyone knew of their latest victory or draft pick—even, and especially if, your allegiance lay elsewhere.
To honor Anne’s lively spirit, the family invites friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Life event on September 28, 2019. The event will be held in the Brecht Room at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM, with a brief celebratory program beginning at 5:00 PM. The family encourages attendees to wear t-shirts or jerseys that represent their favorite football team, Broadway show, or 80s rock band.
The family requests that instead of flowers, please make donations to one of her favorite charities: The Covenant House.
