Obituary for Florence Cork

Florence H. Cork, age 89, of New Providence NJ, formally of Upper Montclair, NJ passed away and joined her Heavenly Father on Monday, October 14, 2019.

Born to the late Alvar and Edith Johanson, in Oak Park, Illinois, she grew up in Cicero, IL. Florence was predeceased by her sister, Carole Johnson. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Harry B. Cork, Jr.; loving daughters Coleen (Greg) D’Alessandro and Kathy (Warren) Hoffman, and cherished grandchildren Gregory (Jillian) and Brett D’Alessandro; and Katie, Emily and Megan Hoffman. She is also survived by her sister Grace Seccombe, and several nieces and a nephew. She will be dearly missed by all.

Florence lived life to its fullest. She started her family in Downers Grove, IL, and then she and Harry relocated the family to Upper Montclair, NJ in 1968. Employed by Montclair State University in their student affairs department for over 15 years, she enjoyed working with and supporting the students in their university needs. She enjoyed spending time at the Jersey shore and Cape Cod, traveling, Arts and Crafts fairs, and most especially spending time with her family and watching all her grandchildren in many sporting events. A long time resident of Upper Montclair, NJ, and West Palm Beach, FL, she recently moved to New Providence, NJ.

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service to celebrate her life and faith, to be held at Brookdale Christian Church, 1350 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Backpacks For Life (www.backpacksforlife.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity established by her grandson, Marine Sgt. Brett D’Alessandro, to support our veterans in need.
