Obituary for Rose Marie Ippolito
Rose Marie Ippolito of Cedar Grove, N.J., lovingly known to everyone as "Aunt Roe," passed away Jan. 22, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, John.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Belleville, N.J., with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Visiting is Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Caggiano Memorial Home, 62 Grove St., Montclair, N.J.
Rose Marie was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Emmanuel and Jennie DeIacova. She graduated from Eastern District High School in Williamsburg, N.Y. She first worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York, followed by a tenure at Empire State Record Sales, then Time Square Stores, and eventually became an entrepreneur.
Although Rose Marie did not have any siblings, she had her dearest cousin, Jerry Petrucci of Bloomfield, N.J., who she considered her brother. On Jan. 15, 1966, she married the love of her life, John Ippolito. They lived an amazing life together for 51 years. They resided in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where they owned and operated R & J Clothing store, and Sweet Things Ice Cream Shoppe on Graham Avenue.
Rose Marie was dedicated to her church, St. Francis of Paola, where she was a Rosarian and active member of the St. Theresa Guild. She was a member of the choir and participated in all church activities, even organizing day trips and running Bingo. She was a member of our Lady of Snow and a Columbiette with the Auxiliary of Don Bosco Knights of Columbus Council in Brooklyn.
In 2013, Rose Marie and John moved to Cedar Grove, N.J. Here they owned and operated A & J Café truck, and would serve Italian specialties at the Feast of St. Gerard in Newark, N.J. Together they were truly dedicated to St. Gerard for over 30 years. They also attended St. Sebastian and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montclair, along with St. Anthony of Padua in Belleville. Rose Marie loved to travel to Pennsylvania for long weekends and visit family across Italy with her beloved husband.
Aunt Roe was loved by all who met her. She will be forever missed by all of her Rosamilia cousins, along with Jerry and Joanne Petrucci; nephew, Anthony Petrucci and his wife Dawn and their children AJ and Olivia; niece, Lisa Freid and her husband Eric and their children Evan and Emma; and niece Teresa Schweiger and her son Noah.
