Birtalean Parker-Walker, lovingly known as Birt, was born on June 28, 1935 in Autaugaville, Alabama. She was the third of five children born to Ida Mae Underwood Parker and Arbie Densley Parker. Birtalean was raised in Autaugaville until the age of nine, when the family moved to New Jersey. On November 21,1954, she married Holt Walker Jr and from that union they reared five children. Birtalean was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1968.
Birtalean started her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She went on to obtain her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Kean University in 1981. Birtalean spent most of her career at The Division of Family and Youth Services (DYFS) as a Social Worker, helping numerous children and families until she retired in 2001. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends and was always willing to help others. Her hobbies included collecting custom hand bells of all kinds. She also enjoyed watching Western movies and listening to her favorite singer, Lou Rawls.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Melva M. Walker-Davis and is survived by her children Ilene Walker, Carrie Walker, Holt Walker III, and Kyle Walker. She has numerous grandchildren and great grand children. She also leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love, encouragement, and support during this difficult time. The prayers, words of love, and acts of kindness have been a great source of comfort and strength.
