Obituary for Isidoro Sabatino

Isidoro “Ted” Sabatino, 87, of Warren, N.J. passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020. Ted was born in Montefredane, Avellino, Italy on February 2, 1933, and came to the United States in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army and then the U.S. National Guard from 1956-1962; after which he worked in engineering at Wallace and Tiernan in Belleville for over three decades. He married his loving wife Jeanette in May 1965, settling in the Montclair area for 35 years, where they raised four sons before moving to Warren in 1994.

Ted loved soccer, playing for the United States Army team while stationed in Germany. He coached for his children for over a decade and founded the Strikers league in Montclair, which eventually combined with the Stars league to become Montclair United Soccer Club. A world-class storyteller, Ted was known for his love of music, dancing, and singing; the beach; the stock market; dinner parties; and, most of all, his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Giuseppa (née Iandolo); his brother Arcangelo; his sisters Luciana and Iolanda; and his sons, Francis and Richard. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette (née Canale); his sons, Ronald and Leonard; his grandchildren, Alexander, Caitlin, Andrew, Jacob, Matteo, and Mosiah; his brothers, Benito, Raimondo, Valentino, and Claudio; his sisters, Mafalda, Diana, Liliana, and Rina; his daughters-in-law Carrie and Caroline; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of New Jersey (Florham Park).
