Obituary for William R Smith
William Robert Smith, age 73, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2020 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Born September 13, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York; he was the son of the late Edwin and Margaret (Gibson) Smith.
William, fondly known as Bill, was raised in Nutley, NJ and was a Bloomfield resident for the last 47 years. William graduated from Nutley High School in 1964 and received both his Bachelor’s Degree and MBA in Industrial Engineering from Farleigh Dickinson University. While at university William was a member of the Sigma Phi Omega fraternity, also known as the sportsmen. William was a respected project manager for 30 years at Wakefern Food Corporation. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and playing softball. William prided himself on taking his family on beautiful yearly vacations to the Jersey Shore and Bahamas. Over the last few years, William loved spending valuable time and sharing laughs with family and friends and enjoyed listening to the Zac Brown Band.
William is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia (Stanisci) Smith; along with two children; Heather Smith-Bermudez and wife Betty of Bloomfield, NJ and Jarret Smith and wife Amy of Wayne, NJ; three grandchildren, Yazmine Musa, Ashley Musa, and Trisha Jon Smith-Bermudez; and great grandson Luis Enzo Caballero. Also surviving are his brothers, Roger Smith of Highland Lakes, NJ and Edward Smith of State College, PA; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and relatives.
Memorial services for William Smith, for the safety of all, will be held for immediate family members only. The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date where they hope all will be able to attend and share their fond memories and love for William. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and understanding during this unprecedented time.
