Obituary for Glenn A. Avanzato

Our phenomenal second baseman, Glenn Avanzato, is now playing ball in heaven with the angels. If I were to characterize our beloved brother, I would select the words, humor, quick wit, and most of all kindness. Glenn was naturally gifted in attracting people. He loved people and people loved him. He remembered details about people’s lives, which made such a difference in his relationships.

Growing up in Brooklyn and Montclair, NJ, Glenn excelled in sports, particularly Little League. There were always three bases in our backyards, where my brothers played ball with our dad just about every evening. Glenn attended Immaculate Conception HS, was an altar boy at our church, and went on to study Math Education at MSU. While in Michigan, he married Joanne Parks, and created a contented life with his son Troy, and many wonderful lifelong friends. Glenn worked for an oil company in Michigan and was actively engaged in many social activities, including Metros Realty, Woolies, Rolling Thunder softball teams, and was part owner of a racing horse, Flashy Zayre. Glenn was an extraordinary light in our lives. A special piece of our hearts is now in God’s hands.
