Obituary for Carl Moschella
Carl J. Moschella, 88, a long-time resident of Verona, NJ, an Army veteran of the Korean War, a long-time employee of JPMorgan Chase, and a former member of the St. Sebastian Society in Montclair NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 5, at Our Lady of the Lake in Verona, NJ, with interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair. Visiting is on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St., Montclair, N.J.
Carl is survived by his oldest son, James Moschella and his wife, Priscilla, and by his granddaughters, Deanna and Marissa Moschella. He was predeceased by his wife, Margherite Moschella, his youngest son, Paul Moschella, his older sister, Josephine and her husband William (Bill) Flanagan, his younger brother, Angelo (Jerry) Moschella and his wife, Ida (Dolly) Moschella, his sister-in-laws, Joan Moschella and Stella Moschella, and his brother- in law, Bartholomew (Bobby) Messina. He is lovingly remembered by his younger sister, Angela (Angie) Festa and her husband, Angelo Festa, his younger brothers, Michael Moschella and Sebastian (Busty) Moschella, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Messina, many nieces and nephews (and their families), friends and all who had the honor of meeting him. Carl was hardworking and loyal, and his dedication to his family touched many lives and hearts. He will be truly missed.
Carl was the second child and oldest son of Joseph and Theresa Moschella, from Montclair, NJ. He took much pride in looking after his many siblings after his father passed away at a young age. He was drafted into the Army and bravely fought in the Korean War. He later joined JPMorgan Bank and worked there for 40+ years until he retired. Retirement certainly did not mean rest, as he spent his days working hard always caring for his family, adoring his granddaughters, counting collections at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona, tending to his flower and vegetable gardens, and making an abundance of handmade wooden crafts, each hand painted with love and many to reflect seasons and holidays. He was know for his many birdhouses, creative wooden holiday lawn displays and a 10 foot Santa. His attention to detail was amazing and the pieces he gifted to his family even came with a “maintenance plan,” as the items became weathered over time! When not crafting beautiful wooden displays or tending to his yard, he spent time writing letters, charting family history on his computer, organizing family pictures and other momentos from special occasions.
But his true pride and joy was his family: his wife of 58 years, his son Jim and his family, and his son Paul. He was always looking over someone, whether it was his siblings, mother, wife, sons, daughter-in-law, or spoiling his precious granddaughters. He was a huge part of their lives, from Indian Guides, to Special Olympics, to St. Sebastian Feasts, to painting and crafting with his granddaughters. He was a true gem and will be forever in our hearts.
