Obituary for Kevin Gibbs
Deacon Kevin Darnell Gibbs entered into the Kingdom of our Lord on Wednesday April 28, 2021 surrounded by his family at University Hospital in Newark, NJ.
Son of Dorine Gibbs and the late Joseph Jerome Gibbs, Kevin was born on May 9th, 1962 and attended Montclair Public Schools.
Kevin attended Montclair High School, where he was a Star football player. In 1980, Kevin graduated Montclair High School.
Upon Graduation Kevin attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. It was there where he received his B.A Degree in Hotel and Resturant Management. Kevin was employed by the Montclair Board of Education for 32 years, until his retirement in 2021.
Kevin accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and joined the Bright Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. William E Woods.
In 2016 Kevin Married the love of his life Deidre Howard.
Kevin was a member of the Bright Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Montclair, New Jersey. Where he served on the Mass Choir, and was a member of the Sunday School.
Kevin was ordained as a Deacon by Rev. Dejon V Morris, he became Chairman of the Deacon Board.
Kevin is a lifelong member of Eureka Lodge #52, where he served as Worshipful Master.
Kevin will forever be remembered for his faithfulness, generosity, sincerity, his beautiful SMILE, and his love and devotion to his family, his church especially and all mankind.
Kevin has always been affectionately known as Kamil, Big Dog, and B.A.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 4 years Deirdre Gibbs, of Montclair, NJ.
Two children Malcolm Gibbs of Montclair, NJ, Christina Samuels of Montclair, NJ. Stepdaughter Morgan Howard of Montclair, NJ. His mother Dorine Gibbs of Pawleys Island, SC. Two Sisters Wanda D Leftwich of Montclair, NJ, and Charlene Gibbs of Pawley’s Island, SC. Two Brothers Dr. Charles J Gibbs of Birmingham, Al, and Raymond Gethers of Charleston, SC. Mother in law Brenda Howard of Alabama. Three sister in laws Renee Gibbs of Birmingham, AL, Henrietta Gethers of Pawleys Island, SC. Shaye Howard of Alabama. 1 brother in law Norman G Leftwich of Montclair, NJ.
A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father Deacon Joseph Jerome Gibbs, Brother Raynard Gethers Sr, and other relatives.
His Entrance into God’s presence leaves a vacuum in the hearts of all whose lives God touched through him.
