Obituary for Kevin J McEvoy

Kevin J. McEvoy, 67, passed away on Friday, July 2nd after receiving loving care in his final weeks at the Montville, NJ home of his sister Patricia Alexander (Harvey).
Kevin was born to Edward and Helen McEvoy, nee O’Reilly, and was a lifelong resident of Newark, NJ. He was a graduate of Barringer High School and attended Rutgers University. Kevin was a long‐time USPS mail carrier in East Orange. It was on his route that he met his beloved dog, Holly, who would join him in regular outings to nearby Branch Brook Park. This was an ongoing theme in Kevin’s life, rescuing animals (cats especially) who would appear in his backyard or on his front steps. Kevin’s love of animals led to him becoming a vegetarian.
In retirement, he enjoyed his part‐time job as a Hertz transporter, traveling to different locations and exploring new areas.
Kevin was blessed with an even temperament, generous heart and a quick wit. He was curious, took an interest in others and was easy to talk with. He loved Italian food, attending concerts and had an extensive music collection.
When sister Kathy and husband Greg (like a big brother) were preparing their house for sale, Kevin was always available to help with any task and made it look effortless. This is just one example of the kind and supportive man Kevin was. He was a special person and will be missed.
He is survived by his sisters Patricia Alexander (Harvey), Kathleen McEvoy, his nephew Brian Alexander (Mahua), his niece Kristin Wilson (Nick), his great nephew Devan Alexander. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Helen McEvoy, his sister Mary Ellen McEvoy, brother‐in‐law Greg Hairabedian, his nephew Robert DiBiase, his nephew Edward Alexander.
There was a private family service held. In his memory, donations can be made to either a local animal welfare group or the Human Needs Food Pantry‐ 9 Label St., Montclair, NJ 07042. Humanneedsfoodpantry.org/donate.
