Obituary for Betty Rodgers

Betty was born, Betty Cecilia Marcell on September 3, 1944, in New York,
N.Y. She was the 2 nd of four children of Sarah Cecilia Scott and Elmer
Marcell. She was a young girl when she lost her biological father. She was
then raised by the Morton C. Van Allen who subsequently married Sarah
Cecilia Van Allen, all of whom are now deceased. They lived in New York
City from 1944 to 1964. The family then relocated in to East Orange, New
Jersey. Betty then began a family of her own. She met Willie Rodgers and
married in 1965 and they subsequently had one son the late Mark Anthony
Rodgers.
Betty led a very full and exciting life. She was inspired by music at a young
age due to her families roots in the jazz industry and she loved to dance.
Betty was also known to be a person who loved fashion and vibrant colors
which even led her to a few modeling opportunities in her younger years.
She was also well recognized for her outstanding choice of wardrobe. She
was always known as a sharp dresser and was always put together.
For the majority of her secular career, she worked at Blue Cross & Blue
Shield as a Principal Account Clerk, retiring after 23 years of service.



However, without a doubt, the one thing Betty cherished the most was her
friendship with her God Jehovah. Betty Rodgers was dedicated as one of
Jehovah’s Witnesses in March 1976 in Monroe, N.Y.
Betty was a resident of Orange, New Jersey. She was (pre-deceased by
her only son Mark Anthony Rodgers. Betty has one grandson James
Anthony Rodgers, three sisters: Beverly Marcell Johnstone, Barbara Van
Allen Satterwhite and Sarah Van Allen. She also had three brothers: two
who are pre-deceased Warren Alfred Marcell and Lawrence Rene Marcell
and Michael Anthony Van Allen. Betty also had many nieces, nephews,
and a host of beloved extended family members, spiritual friends and
neighbors.
