Obituary for Glenn W Steed

Glenn Wright Steed was the youngest of three children born to Charles and
Barbara Jean Steed of Montclair, New Jersey on Friday July 20th 1956 at
Mountainside Hospital, Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
Growing up in Montclair, Glenn attended Nishuane Elementary, Hillside Junior
High, and graduated from Montclair High School in 1975. He enjoyed playing
sports, participating in little league football with the Montclair Cobras, and
continued playing throughout high school.
After graduation, Glenn attended Bowie State College in Maryland earning his
Bachelor’s Degree in 1979.
Glenn’s professional life cast him to Washington D.C. where his career path
began as an educator. His strong organizational and leadership skills ultimately
led to his transition from the field of education to administration in Finance and
Business Management.
Glenn excelled as a Business Manager accumulating a number of awards and
certificates in the area of Procurement. He was admired and respected by his
supervisors and colleagues with whom he worked with more than 30 years.
Glenn was joined in Holy Matrimony on July 2, 1999 to Hazell Rich. At the
foundation of their union were Love, Faith and Laughter. As a couple they
encouraged and supported each other’s personal and professional growth.
They enjoyed spending quality time together filling time and space with taking
long drives, visiting cultural museums, attending Broadway plays and extensive
traveling with family and friends stateside as well as romantic destinations to the
Caribbean, Hawaii, and Tahiti.
A kind and generous soul Glenn cared deeply for others especially the youth. He
volunteered his time and service to a number of programs in the community.
Noteworthy among these were his partnership with Head Start and
Mildred E. Gibbs Elementary School. Glenn was very active and resourceful in
local book and toy drives and also served as assistant coach to the youth
basketball team. For these efforts he received honorable recognition for his
outstanding contribution and dedication to students.
Glenn’s interest in health and wellness led him to pursue additional training and
certification in Reflexology. As a member of Focus on Healing Reflexology his
team provided services to corporations in the D.C. Metro area.
During his life Glenn had a variety of hobbies that he was very passionate about.

First and foremost was his love of military history inspired by a gift from his dad
Charles Steed. Glenn thoroughly enjoyed visiting countless bookstores and
hobby shops amassing an extensive collection of historic books and war
memorabilia that included aircraft, soldiers, forts and tanks. Time permitting he
would spend hours conducting reenactments of famous battles. Glenn often
commented that his interest was not in the art of war, but the strategy of peace.
Second, was his love of all genres of music, especially R & B and Motown.
Glenn had an expansive collection of greatest hits from all his favorite artists
including the Stylistics, New Birth, Dramatics, Moments, Temptations &Prince,
just to name a few. His beautiful voice could be heard from sunrise to sunset.
He took great pleasure in sharing his talent at family gatherings and reunions.
Singing on stage with Jackie Slappy and Arthur of “A Class Act “ was hailed as a
dream come true.
Glenn also loved sports particularly basketball, jet skiing and scuba diving. His
night diving in the Tahitian waters was a highlight that brought him immense joy.
Glenn had a keen interest in Genealogy. He was passionate in his research
about his family ancestry and Bermudian roots. He looked forward to traveling to
Bermuda to visit his relatives with friends, Barry and Robert.
Besides his parents his sister Shawn was a constant source of support
throughout his life. They enjoyed watching old movies, Jeopardy, traveling and
reminiscing about the old neighborhood days gone by. He was immensely
grateful to her and his cousin Lance for their unconditional love and care.
Glenn made his transition peacefully on Wednesday June 15, 2022.  He was
predeceased by parents, Charles and Barbara Jean Steed, and brother Charles
Steed Jr. (Chuckie).
Glenn leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 23 years Hazell; sister Shawn;
niece CiCi; sister-in-law Crystal; one uncle, Charles Burke (Butch); many
cousins, and a host of friends.
Glenn, you were a devoted son, brother, husband and loyal friend. You are now
amidst your loved ones with everlasting peace and contentment. We will truly
miss you but the memories we have shared will forever be a part of us.
