Obituary for Evelyn Hannon

It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Hannon announces her passing. The
world has lost a great champion of kindness, compassion, courage, and intelligence. Evelyn
traveled the world, helped her community, and was a great teacher.

Visiting Friday August 12th from 4-8pm at Caggiano Memorial, 62 Grove St, Montclair. Funeral mass Saturday 12pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 120 Prospect St, Nutley. Cremation will be private.

She was director of athletics at NYU, coached tennis and basketball and is in the NYU
Hall of Fame as a coach and player. She was on the Athletic Council in Belleville to support
Belleville sports teams. A member of the Belleville Historic Society, she worked hard to
preserve Belleville’s history. As a journalist, she pursued a 30-year career at Time magazine, loving being in the middle of the news.

She is survived by her spouse, Rose Kaplan, and her son, Evan Kaplan, her nieces Tara Delgado, Allegra Hannon, Clare-Marie Hannon, and nephew James Hannon.
