Charles Franklin Wingfield, Jr. was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on April 3, 1944 to Charles and Thelma Wingfield. He attended Hillside School through the ninth grade and was president of the student council, he graduated from Montclair High School in 1963. He attended and graduated from Bloomfield College with a Bachelors’ Degree. An avid baseball player Charles was selected three (3) years in a row New Jersey Allstate first team second baseman. During his senior year at Bloomfield College he was scouted by the Milwaukee (Atlanta) Braves and elected President of Zeta Sigma Fraternity.

Charles moved to Illinois and was employed with Chrysler Corp. for over (25) twenty-five years receiving numerous accolades and awards. Upon his retirement, Charles moved back to Montclair. Charles will be remembered for his humor, baseball and up beat attitude.

He is survived by his daughters Katherine Wingfield-Barry (William), Claire Wingfield and their mother Vivienne Wingfield; Grandchildren Matthew, Joshua and Elizabeth Barry, great-grandson Henry Barry. Sisters Donna Wingfield-Feggins, Robyn Wingfield-Howard, Brother-in Laws Frederick Howard, Floyd Jefferson,Jr., Nieces and Nephews Fanya and Kyle Feggins, Tai, Ryan and Taryn Howard, Great Nephew Ahmad Feggins, Great Niece Olivia Feggins, Great Great Niece Nova Feggins; Extended Family Frank, Lynn, Kimberly Visco, his Illinois family and a host of relatives and friends.


Services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Caggiano Memorial Home for Funerals, 62 Grove Street, Montclair, NJ 07042. Viewing is at 9:00 a.m. and the services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Services will available on Zoom on the Caggiano Memorial Website.
