Obituary for Harry B Cork Jr.

Harry Baden Cork, Jr, of New Providence NJ, formerly of Upper Montclair, NJ and Lake Worth, FL, went home to be with his Lord on September 12, 2022 at the age of 94.

He was born to the late Harry and Ann Cork in Oak Park, Illinois, on May 7, 1928. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Millikin University in Decatur, IL. After graduation, Harry was drafted into the US Army Artillery during the Korean conflict. After his discharge in 1953, Harry married Florence Johanson, the love of his life. They later had two daughters, Coleen Lynn and Kathleen Ann in Downers Grove, IL.

Harry worked for Western Electric, a manufacturing subsidiary of AT&T. In 1968, he was transferred to their headquarters in New York and he relocated his family to Upper Montclair, NJ. Harry’s last assignment at AT&T before he retired was working with the company’s president on a number of non-profit initiatives. This afforded the opportunity for both Harry and Florence to travel and attend many fun special events. After Harry’s retirement, Harry and Florence enjoyed many winters in Florida (especially when their children and grandchildren visited) and summers in New Jersey. In 2016 they were among the first to move to independent living at Lantern Hill in New Providence, NJ.

Harry was predeceased by his wife, Florence, in 2019 and his brother John Abbot Cork in 2016. He leaves behind his daughters Coleen (and Greg) and their sons, Gregory Jr. (Jill) and Brett, and Kathy (Warren) and their daughters Katie, Emily and Megan, as well as a great granddaughter Hayden.

A memorial service to celebrate Harry’s life will be held on November 5th at Brookdale Christian Church in Bloomfield, NJ. Both Harry and his wife, Florence, will be interred at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Backpacks For Life (www.backpacksforlife.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity established by his grandson, Marine Sgt. Brett D’Alessandro, to support our veterans in need.
