We mournfully announce the passing of John C. Kerr, Jr., 86, of Toms River, NJ. John passed away on January 4, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with dementia.
John, born to Beatrice and John C. Kerr, took his first breath on July 13, 1936. John was a force to be reckoned with from the get-go, spending a majority of his life residing in Montclair, NJ. He dedicated himself to his work in both the private and public sector, working for Prudential before serving the state of New Jersey.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Beatrice Kerr, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his sister Barbara Clarke and her husband Dave of Satellite Beach, FL, his niece Heather Candelaria and her boys Frankie, Daniel, and Ryan of California, his nephew Jay of New Jersey, his is sister-in-law Colleen Kerr of Manasquan, NJ, his nephew Ryan Kerr and his wife Jennifer and their boys Gavin and Landon of Millstone, NJ, his niece Megan Hatch and her husband Ian and their children Brianna and Austin of Point Pleasant, NJ, and his niece Melissa Mottley and her husband Kris and their daughters Scarlet and Madelyn of Howell, NJ.
While John never married, he lived a full and vibrant life filled with family, friends and fun. His family meant more to him than words can describe.
When John retired, he devoted most of him time to traveling the Northeast, reading, and listening to news radio. He also always loved his time ‘down the shore’ and having a good meal with friends and family. As a devout Catholic, John was also an active member of St. Cassian Roman Catholic Church in Montclair, NJ. We will miss him dearly.
Mass will be held St. Cassian Roman Catholic Church at 187 Bellevue Avenue, Montclair, NJ, on Friday, January 6, at 10:00 AM. Following mass, a small ceremony will be held at his gravesite at Immaculate Conception Cemetery at 712 Grove Street in Montclair, NJ.
