Obituary for June Gallimore

June Mae Thompson was born on April 29, 1930, to Lester and Rebecca Thompson.
At a young age, June went to St. Paul Baptist Church on Hartley Street in Montclair, New Jersey and was
baptized at the age of eleven. She joined the choir shortly after she was baptized, and that was the
beginning of her love for music and singing.
June grew up in Montclair where she attended public school from kindergarten through high school.
After high school, she went on to further her education at New York University, where she obtained her
bachelor’s degree in history. She then attended Hartford Seminary at Hartford International University
in Connecticut where she received a master’s degree in Christian Education.
After college, June met and married William Gallimore and from this union had one child, Pamela.
During June’s career she had various jobs in and around New York including The Council of Churches in
Brooklyn, Salem United Methodist church in Harlem as a program director, and The New York Annual
Conference of the United Methodist Church in White Plains. June worked over 40 years in New York, but
she always called Montclair her home. She would say she loved coming home to grass, trees, and
squirrels after a day in the city. June’s last profession was as a job career coach for the Occupational
Center of Essex County in Orange, New Jersey, where she would assist in travel training and job coaching
individuals with developmental challenges to work at jobs within the community.
June was on various committees dealing with the church and community. Attending these meetings
fulfilled her love of travel as she traveled to many different states and countries. In her spare time, when
not traveling and working, June loved to sing and was a member of the Eastern Choral Guild where they
recorded two or three albums.
June retired in 1996 and spent most of her retirement enjoying her grandchildren Christina, Darrell,
Farasha and Darrell’s wife, Ann; her great-grandchildren Giana, Jordan, Olivia, Alexa, Mya, Savannah and
Sierra; and one great-great grandchild Chloe.
After a short illness, June transitioned one day after turning 93 years old. She was predeceased by her
mother, father, her sister Joan, who was her best friend, and her nephew Kevin.
She leaves to mourn, her daughter Pam, all of her grandchildren, her nieces Jo-Ann, Jackie and Robin as
well as her nephew Steven and a host of over 35 great nieces and nephews, loving cousins and many
friends.
