Each time I think of Jack I smile. I'm smiling now!! He always had a pleasant word, a wonderful greeting. Once while I was in CVS (i was in a bad mood, as something had just happened), Jack saw me, and asked how I was. I gave him a look, and said "don't even ask". He was so funny, he just looked at me and in his way said "hey no problem". It was the way he said it, as he quietly went about his work. I thought to myself, yeah, he's wise enough to not want to hear a woman rant. Miss you Jack - didn't know you well, but you are missed. A rare and sincere gentleman. God bless you and your family, and Ada.
Montclair lost one of its real treasures today – one of those folks I call “Montclair Perennials” because they seem to be everywhere, all the time, and have always been around, wherever one turns. It was way, way back in the 70′s when I first moved to town that I met Jack while he was a department manager at the A&P on Valley Road. Then, as in the many years to follow, his simple greeting brightened one’s day - seeing Jack's smile was like seeing the sun rise. He had an amazing way of making everyone around him feel good, especially when they were feeling downcast and needed cheering up. Jack was retired but continued to work at the CVS on Claremont Avenue, now doubt because he loved people – and they loved him back - very much. May his beautiful spirit find rest eternal!
I was truly saddened to hear of Jack's passing...what a shock...I remember Jack from the A & P, Aida, as well...And whenever I would see him at CVS, he was always so friendly, never saw him without a smile...Always positive attitude...Heaven has a new angel...My condolences to Aida, and the entire family...
I was so saddened to read of Jack's passing. What a sweet guy...always happy, cheerful, helpful. It was such a pleasure to go to CVS and hear "How are you today?" or "You have a great day now." It was so refreshing to see a man give such positivity away to perfect strangers. He will be missed. My condolences go to his entire family and co-workers.
I met Jack when I first moved to Montclair. He was without a doubt the nicest man. Always a smile on his face. Always a hearty laugh. Always helpful and kind. I am so sorry he has left us. He left us ioo soon. I will miss him. And I wish him eternal peace.
