There is special rejoicing when a child returns. Angels sing and shiver with joy. The child is held and soothed, sung to, bathed in a continual and enveloping light. Jesus holds a special place for babies and children of all ages. They are free from the suffering of mortals. They are pure of heart and create music unequaled anywhere.
While Jesus sings a lovesong for the child, he weeps with those who weep. He hurts. He carries them during those days and dark nights of unending loss. He hums a song of hope while clutching the fears and daggering whys.
The Holy Spirit also fills those spaces of grief with comfort from unexpected sources. There is a celestial gathering of all the saints, especially those like Marijke and Ed's family who returned to their creator earlier. Comfort, joy, hope, light and everlasting life are real. They are evidenced and embraced through agonizing tears and wrenching why's. The loving creator is never nearer on earth than after the death of a child.
Take all the time required. Penny is with you in new and life-giving ways. Watch for morning. It will come without fanfare, but with purpose. Listen for Penny's song.
With love from Grandma Bettie
